The Year 10 History Elective class oral history program in which our students have been interviewing Holocaust survivors at the Montefiore Home and writing biographies of their lives and experiences during this most tragic event.

The program aims to teach our History students about this event using oral testimony in order to better understand and create a sense of empathy in our students about the way these peoples lives were affected by these tragic events more than 70 years ago. It is through oral history that learning about such events becomes a powerful method of trying to understand how and why these events happened and how people’s lives were affected.
For the past term, our students have been visiting the Montefiore every fortnight in order to interview and document the events of the Holocaust and in particular the life stories of the senior citizens whom they have been interviewing.

It has been a powerful and dynamic learning experience for our students which they will remember for many years.
